"How did you become interested in henna?'
This is the first question I am often asked. I owe my interest to my youngest sister, Elizabeth, who worked and traveled the world. Henna was the gift she brought me from India in 2007. That introduction fueled what quickly became a passion. Now I continue henna in her memory.
Rocky Mountain Henna became a business in 2008. It has evolved over the years as I have had the opportunity to attend trainings and work with other artists. My first Henna Conference was in April 2009. In August of 2009, together with a few other artists, including Anita of Hummingbird Henna, I helped organize the first henna conference in Colorado. We had a fabulous 3 day conference with artists coming from as far as California, Kansas, and Texas. In all, I've attended conferences in Nevada(2009), California (2012, 2013, 2015, 2017) and Minnesota (2013, 2014). At every conference I learn something new and strengthen my skills. I'm already looking forward to upcoming conferences to continue my education and perfect my skills.
Henna has given me an appreciation of body art in general. As well as fulfilling my business motto, 'Making Colorado beautiful, one henna at a time...,' I enjoy working with clients to develop individual design work, providing a way to test drive an ink tattoo before committing, working with business clients to incorporate their logo into beautiful henna designs as a means of public promotion, and the many opportunities to work with individuals and groups in celebration of milestone events such as weddings, births, birthdays, anniversaries, girls-night-in, and so on.
I offer education programs and have been invited to teach at several schools and libraries in Colorado Springs. I enjoy teaching and sharing my passion. Library programs have become popular and have taken me to Falcon, Security, Monument as well as local branches here in Colorado Springs with the Pikes Peak Library District. A future goal includes working with scouting groups. Over the years I have provided henna at events in Aspen, Denver, Falcon, Fountain, Manitou Springs, Monument, Security, Widefield, plus my home location of Colorado Springs. I look forward to seeing where it takes me next!
